On Sunday, May 7, 2023, the election of the 50 members of the Constitutional Council took place, as part of the process to approve a new Constitution. Following this, a draft of the new Constitution will be submitted by the Expert Commission on June 6, 2023. The Constitutional Council will have 5 months to propose the final text of the Constitution to be voted by plebiscite on December 17, 2023.
“We are pleased that the constituent process follows its established course, as this strengthens our democracy and gives greater certainty to the general public. It is in everyone’s interest that the constituent process concludes successfully with the approval of a new Constitution that will contribute to Chile’s ability to overcome underdevelopment”, says Paulo Larraín, Founding Partner of NLD.
